GNRP Manchester To Preston
Network Rail’s Team Orange have successfully installed the final foundation for the electrification project on the Manchester to Preston railway.
This huge milestone means that engineers can now focus on installing the remaining steelwork and overhead wires. Work continues during mid-week overnight shifts and at weekends to complete the project.
Team Orange are also busy checking and adjusting platform gauging across the Manchester to Preston route to make sure that the electric trains can run safely on the railway. The photograph above shows work taking place at Salford Crescent.
Over the last weekend Network Rail used a large crane to complete the construction of a new footbridge at Red Moss level crossing in Horwich to allow users to cross the railway more safely.
To complete the upgrade of the Manchester to Preston railway, work will continue mid-week during the night and every weekend until Sunday 4th November 2018. A nine day closure of the railway is also needed and will take place from Saturday 25th August until Sunday 2nd September 2018.
