CRL Hosts Year In Industry Students

Community Rail Lancashire hosted a group of Arriva Rail North (Northern) ‘Year in Industry’ students yesterday.

The students started their day in the community room at Burnley Manchester Road station where CRL’s Brian Haworth gave them an understanding of the work CRL does and what community rail is in general. They were also able to see a piece of work installed at the station as part of a Northern apprentice project.

The students then moved on to Rose grove to see a project undertaken by two local schools, including inspecting the artwork installations and a visit to the Padiham Greenway.

The group then moved on to Blackburn station where they were able to inspect the disused part of the station that has seen a grant from Arriva Rail North’s Seedcorn Fund deliver a Masterplan for the redevelopment of the area.

Another project by the Northern apprentices has seen Blackburn station benefit from some new dementia friendly signage and the students were able to see this in place and also to see where the project will be installing some recycled plastic planters shortly.
