Rose Grove Revived

Rose Grove station on the outskirts of Burnley is down to get a major refurbishment on the strength of the new service to Manchester via the newly re-opened Todmorden West Curve. Rose Grove will become an interchange hub between the existing Colne to Blackpool South service and the new Manchester service that is proposed to start in May.

The refurbishment will include new waiting shelters, CCTV, customer information screens (CIS) and a self-serve ticket vending machine. The trees and shrubs on the platform will also be cleared and the beds covered over with tarmacadam.

Community Rail Lancashire is also developing an arts project with two local primary schools, Lowerhouse and Padiham Green to enrich the station environs, making it a pleasant and safe place to wait for trains. Local artist Alastair Nicholson is once again working with CRL and Alastair and CRDO Brian Haworth had their first classroom visit to Lowerhouse yesterday.
